LLCA Adopts Open Enrollment Policy

LLCA ADOPTS OPEN ENROLLMENT POLICY

Students now welcome to enroll during the school year.

LAKE LURE, N.C. (October 9, 2013): With the appointment of a new director, Mrs. Jessica Boland, at Lake Lure Classical Academy, so comes the school’s new open enrollment policy that permits student to apply for academic admission to the school at any time during the year.

With the support of the LLCA School Board, Boland feels that an open enrollment policy is more beneficial to the school’s community.

“As with most non-charter public schools, LLCA wants to have an open door policy,” explains Boland. “Especially if new families move to the area, or students are looking to switch schools, we want families to know they are always welcome here.”

With a current student population of 325, the open enrollment policy is active as long as the school has space for the students. Once at capacity in a grade level, prospective students will be placed on a waiting list.

For parents or guardians interested in sending their children to LLCA – a tuition-free, public charter school – there is the option to shadow a current student for a day. Shadowing students allows prospective children and families to get a sense of the school’s culture and its rigorous academic and character-enriching environment.

According to Boland, many parents who transfer their children to LLCA are attracted to the school’s Core Knowledge curriculum, which is more accelerated and comprehensive than the Common Core curriculum currently offered in N.C. Public Schools. LLCA is also partnering with Isothermal Community College in Spindale, N.C. to offer high school students dual-enrollment opportunities.

Helen Pace switched her first grade daughter, Sarah, to LLCA this year.

“With 25 kids in her [former] Kindergarten class, we felt like [Sarah] was getting lost in the crowd,” said Pace. “She has very advanced reading abilities that have not been nurtured at school. We feel like she will really blossom in a more challenging environment.”

LLCA offers an active athletics program with sports like flag football, soccer, baseball and cross-country. Clubs and organizations available for student participation include archery, outdoor club, chess club, student government, yearbook, rock and roll club, and more.
